Highlights

  • Multi-algorithm hashing and Shannon entropy analysis for packed-file heuristics
  • Extension-based file typing via mimetypes, with EXIF metadata extraction
  • Three-regex content heuristics and URL inspection with five security-header checks scored out of 100
  • SQLite-backed case history, Plotly timeline visualizations, and paginated history

How it was built

I built this digital-forensics tool as a Flask web app and command-line program backed by SQLite. For an uploaded file it computes four hashes, Shannon entropy (whole-file and per block) and byte statistics, and flags a few suspicious byte patterns and EXIF metadata. For a URL it resolves DNS, follows redirects and checks five security headers into a score out of 100. Each run is saved to a paginated history with Plotly charts. I hardened uploads with safe filenames, a 16 MB cap and a path-traversal guard. Limits: file typing is extension-based and there are no tests.
